In the plant engineering industry, it is a common practice to submit deliverables such as drawings and calculation reports in multiple stages (e.g., 1st, 2nd, 3rd submissions). During each stage, it is also standard to update calculations to reflect design changes coming from preceding disciplines.
For example, if the superstructure STAAD model is updated to incorporate changes from preceding departments and issued as Rev.0, and STAAD Foundation_Rev.0 has been used to carry out the foundation design based on STAAD(STEEL)_Rev.0, then when a partially revised STAAD(STEEL)_Rev.1 is issued, it should be possible to load STAAD(STEEL)_Rev.1 into STAAD Foundation_Rev.0 and update (synchronize) the model accordingly.
At present, however, STAAD Foundation does not provide this synchronization functionality. As a result, whenever any modifications occur in STAAD (such as changes in equipment location, load information, environmental load conditions, or fireproofing scope), STAAD Foundation requires users to start the design process entirely from scratch. This creates unnecessary inefficiency in project workflows.
Request:
We would like to formally suggest the addition of a synchronization function in STAAD Foundation that allows an existing STAAD Foundation model to be updated when a revised STAAD superstructure file is issued. This would significantly improve productivity and align the software with standard engineering workflows in the plant industry.
Thank you for your consideration.
Hi,
The recently released versions of STAAD.Pro (25.00.00.539) and STAAD Foundation Advanced (25.00.00.287) already support the feature you are requesting, though the workflow is not exactly in the manner you asked for. We can check if a video of that workflow is available and will let you know.
The specific workflow you are asking for has been passed on to our development group (Enhancement Request 1754933) and we will see if this can be incorporated in one of the upcoming releases.
