Currently, SFA uses the highest corner pressure to design the foundation size bearing on soil. Please revise the SFA program to have an option for a soil supported foundation (versus a rock supported foundation) and provide revised foundation sizing calculations to comply with AASHTO 10.6.1.4 which states that the average (uniform) Effective Bearing Pressure shall be used for the proportioning of footing dimensions for the footer bearing on soil. AASHTO 10.6.1.4 states that the (linearly varying) Effective Bearing Pressure shall be used for the proportioning of footing dimensions for the footer bearing on rock. => SFA program is OK. AASHTO 10.6.5 states that the (linearly varying) Effective Bearing Pressure shall be used for the structural design for the footer bearing on soil or rock. => SFA program is OK. Refer to CS0047338 - Footer sizing calculations for soil supported foundation per AASHTO code.
Would you be able to provide us an example that illustrates the design of a foundation as per the code’s suggestions?
Thank you for posting this idea. However, it is in the wrong area and will be moved to the STAAD Concrete portal for a full and proper consideration.
